Brenda McKaig, Traditional Fiber Artist
Brenda raises her own sheep to provide the fiber for her unique and original artwork. She has a great love and respect for her cultural heritage. She has been inspired by the lives of her many ancestors who settled in the Lookout Mountain, GA area where she now lives.
“Their love of the mountains brought them from Europe to the mountains of western North Carolina, then to north Georgia. I believe that sense of ‘belonging to the mountains’ is in my blood. I can’t imagine living any other place.”
My ancestors were tough, yet adventurous and creative folks. They packed up everything they owned and moved to what was then “the wild west” of middle Tennessee and northwestern Georgia. It was Cherokee land.
